What is the Difference Between Clamps and Clips?
At The Shower Door Place, we are often asked about the difference between clamps and clips for glass panel hardware applications.
Both are low profile and add a more “pure glass” aesthetic when compared to U-channel applications.
In some configurations clamps are required due to the design, or for extra stability.
Below are brief descriptions of each option to help give an overview of the differences between the two mounting solutions.
Glass clamps are approximately 2”x 2” square and come in two pieces that clamp over the glass panel. Additional fabrication of the glass panel is needed to accommodate the clamp. The panel can be installed with or without silicone when using clamps as the clamps securely hold the panel in place on their own. Clamps are more suitable for applications with larger glass panels.
Glass clips, sometimes referred to as mini channel, are lower profile than clamps measuring approximately 2'“ wide by 1/2” tall. The clip is anchored into the shower surface, glass is set into the clips and the panel is then glued in place using clear silicone. There is no additional glass fabrication required when using clips and they will provide the cleanest, most minimal finished look.
